Women Only Weekend is all about building confidence in a welcoming, supportive environment. Whether you’re brand new to firearms or looking to expand your knowledge, this two-day experience is designed just for women.
This weekend consists of three comprehensive courses covering firearm fundamentals, personal defense, and the Minnesota Permit to Carry. If you’ve been hesitant to learn or just want to train alongside other women, this is the perfect opportunity!
Is This Course Right for You?
- Do your kids hunt or enjoy shooting, but you never had the chance to learn? This is the perfect place to start.
- Have you been wanting to learn about firearms but aren’t quite ready for your husband, brother, or dad to be your instructor? You’ll feel right at home here.
- Is your significant other into firearms, but you don’t have much experience? This is a great opportunity to get familiar with guns in a comfortable setting.

Saturday Courses
Firearm Fundamentals | 8 AM – 5 PM
Overview
This course is designed to introduce women to both long guns (rifles and shotguns) and handguns (semi-autos and revolvers). We’ll cover firearm components, safety, handling techniques, grip, stance, sight alignment, sight picture, trigger control, and more. Training includes both classroom instruction and live-fire range practice.
Schedule
- Morning: Classroom instruction covering firearm safety, gun components, handling techniques (dry practice), and more.
- Lunch Break: Bring your own meal or enjoy a bite at a nearby restaurant. A full kitchen is also available.
- Afternoon: Range time! You’ll have the opportunity to shoot a variety of firearms and calibers at your own comfort level—there’s no pressure to shoot anything you’re not comfortable with.
What to Bring
- No equipment required! Firearms, ammunition, and ear protection are provided.
- If you own a firearm and want to become more familiar with it, feel free to bring it along along with ammunition (available for purchase on-site).
- If you have personal eye and ear protection, you’re welcome to bring those as well.
Course Cost: $170 per student
Sunday Courses
Intro to Personal Defense | 3:30 PM – 5:00 PM
Overview
This classroom-only course focuses on situational awareness, self-defense tactics, and strategies to protect yourself without a firearm. You’ll learn valuable skills for handling real-world situations, including unarmed defense against a gun.
What to Bring
- No special equipment is required.
- Since this course includes some hands-on activities, wear comfortable clothing that allows for movement.
Course Cost: $50 per student
Minnesota Permit to Carry | 8 AM – 3 PM
Overview
This course meets Minnesota state requirements for obtaining your Permit to Carry (Concealed Carry). It covers MN carry statutes, use of force laws, and the responsibilities of carrying a loaded handgun.
Certification:
- River Valley Arms & Ammo is certified through the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension to teach this course.
- Upon successful completion, students will receive a certificate allowing them to apply for their MN Permit to Carry at their local sheriff’s office.
- As NRA-certified instructors, we also provide the option to apply for non-resident permits in WI, IA, and FL.
Schedule
- Morning: Classroom instruction covering MN carry statutes, use of force, and legal responsibilities.
- Afternoon: 60-round live-fire qualification at Redwood Falls Sportsmen’s Club.
Live-Fire Qualification Requirements:
- 10 rounds at 3 yards
- 10 rounds at 5 yards
- 10 rounds at 7 yards
- 10 rounds at 9 yards
- 20 rounds of guided personal defense drills
What to Bring
- Handgun (any caliber, including revolvers and .22s allowed)
- 60 rounds of ammunition
- Eye & ear protection (available for purchase if needed)
While there are no firearm restrictions, we do not recommend large calibers or heavy revolvers for this course.
