NRA Basic Shotgun

Course Content

This course is a 10 hour course.  It includes classroom and range time learning how to shoot shotguns at moving targets. Students learn NRA’s rules for safe gun handling; shotgun parts and operation; shotgun shell components; shotgun shell malfunctions; shooting fundamentals; range rules; shooting at straight away and angled targets; cleaning; and continued opportunities for skill development. Students will receive the Basics of Shotgun Shooting handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, Winchester/NRA Marksmanship Qualification booklet, take a Basics of Shotgun Shooting Student Examination, and course completion certificate.

The shooting portion of the course will likely take place at the Redwood Falls Sportsmen’s Club on the West side of Redwood Falls, Minnesota. This is an outdoor range so please dress appropriately for the weather.

This course is a NRA (National Rifle Association) course.  It is taught according to the NRA Basic Shotgun Shooting curriculum.  Learn more about the NRA.

Required Equipment

  1. Your Shotgun
  2. 25 Rounds of Ammunition
  3. Eye & Ear Protection
  4. It is recommended (but not required) that you bring a 3-ring binder to the course along with writing utensils.

Fees & Registration

Cost of the course: $50

A $20 non-refundable deposit is required to hold your place. The remainder is due the day of the course.
