High Power Matches are fired at 200, 300, and 500/600 yards with iron sights. There are also matches that compete at 600-1000 yards with iron and scoped sights. The firearm of choice for CMP sponsored matches is the civilian version of the M16, the AR15 and the M14/M1A. In CMP Games, the choices include the M1 Garand, 1903 Springfield, other Vintage bolt rifles, and the M1 Carbine. The NRA matches use Service rifles, M1, M16, and M14; and rifles specialized for completion.
The shooting sports are an activity that is a true equal opportunity sport for men and women of all ages completing under the same conditions using the same equipment and rules.
