RVAA Women-Only Weekend September 19th-20th

Have you ever wanted to learn more about firearms but you were waiting to do it with an awesome bunch of ladies? Well, now’s your chance!

Join us for Women-Only Weekend! Twice a year, we offer a series of classes for women only. It gives everyone a chance to feel more comfortable asking questions without their husband, boyfriend, father, brother, or whoever looking over their shoulder!

The weekend consists of four classes over two days and offers students a wide variety of options. You can take just one, two, three or all four of the courses. And of course, there’s a discount if you take all four!

Saturday’s Courses: Fundamentals

RVAA Training Ali Web 1Saturday’s courses focus on the fundamentals. We cover the basics of safety, firearm handling and shooting. The fundamentals courses are not a substitution for the MN DNR Firearm Safety Course (FAS). The FAS course focuses pretty extensively on the hunting aspect of firearms hunting – which is great but what if you want to learn about firearms and you’re not a big hunter? That’s where the fundamentals courses come in.

Maybe you’re a mother whose children hunt but you’ve never had the opportunity to learn how to unload a loaded firearm or make sure it’s safe. Maybe you’ve inherited firearms from a relative and want to learn how to operate them safely. Or maybe you’re not really into firearms but you have them in your home and you want to know how to be safe around them. These are all reasons people decide to take the fundamentals classes.

Firearm Fundamentals is approximately 4 hours and covers both long guns (rifles and shotguns) as well as handguns. Handgun Fundamentals is approximately 3 hours and dives a little deeper into handguns. Each course has classroom portions as well as range portions. Firearms and ammunition are provided for these courses but you are welcome to bring your own as well if you have a firearm in your household you’re interested in learning more about.

Sunday’s Courses: Personal Defense

Sunday’s courses focus on personal defense. We cover situational awareness, hand-to-hand tactics, use of force, and Minnesota concealed carry law. It’s important to know how to protect yourself and your family, these courses give you the starting points to consider your own protection.

With the growing number of crazy things happening in our rural Minnesota areas, many people have become interested in learning more about personal defense. We have several people who take the course because they would like to get their permit to carry, but we also have several people who take the course simply to learn more about what the laws are and about how to handle a firearm.

Intro to Personal Defense is approximately 2 hours and covers situational awareness, hand-to-hand tactics, protection plans, unarmed against a gun and use of force. This course is classroom only. MN Permit to Carry a Pistol is approximately 7 hours and covers the concealed carry laws for Minnesota, use of force and deadly force, personal protection, justifiable taking of a life and a shooting qualifier. This course has a classroom portion as well as a range portion. For the range portion, you will need a handgun, at least 60 rounds of ammunition, and eye & ear protection.
